A new survey by AAPI DATA shows that awareness of anti-Asian violence and hate crimes is higher than for other groups, indicating the effectiveness of the #StopAsianHate campaign and related activism. Activists Criticize Police Practices that led to Death of Dr. Yan Li During Mental Health Crisis
Sunny Rickard, president of the Alliance of Chinese Americans San Diego, criticized police practices leading to the death of Yan Li during an eviction on March 3 in Little Italy. Li appeared to be having a mental health crisis, and chased the officers out with a knife, stabbing one officer. Police responded with gunfire, killing Li.
