Chan is Missing

One of the low key funniest movies out there. Chan is Missing takes on Chinese American and Asian American issues, stereotypes, anti-stereotyping, characters, and puts it on screen… but most people probably didn’t even notice; I sure didn’t the first time I watched it. Wood Moy as Jo really makes it his movie.

A good way to re-watch this movie is after a month-long immersion in AAPI Heritage Month, with an emphasis on Asian American Studies. A lot of things come up, like the linguist lawyer, the I-Hotel manongs, declassed immigrants, FOB shame, theory versus reality, left wing Asians conflicting with right wing business.

Great music by Robert Kikuchi-Yngojo and sound by Curtis Choy.
